Trekking Guidelines & Mountain Safety Protocols

Certified procedures by Himalayan Wilderness Leaders & First Responders

Medical Backup On-Trail
1

Acclimatization & AMS Protocol

Ascend steadily. Keep an eye on Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) signals like lingering headaches, dizziness, or nausea. Climb high and sleep low.

2

Hydration & Electrolytes

Drink 3.5 to 4 Litres of water daily. Dry mountain winds accelerate dehydration. Supplement your flask with ORS or warm Himalayan herbal tea.

3

3-Layer Clothing Principle

Follow the 3-layer system: breathable moisture-wicking base layer, insulating fleece/down mid-layer, and a seam-sealed windproof outer shell.

4

Footwear & Ankle Protection

Wear broken-in ankle-support trekking boots with deep lug vibram soles. Carry blister tape, merino wool socks, and UV400 polarized mountain shades.

cravel.in Wilderness Safety Mandate:Every expedition is equipped with portable medical oxygen cylinders, fingertip pulse oximeters, specialized mountain stretcher gear, and satellite GPS communication checkpoints.

Trail Etiquette: What To Do & What NOT To Do

Essential mountaineering ethics to protect fragile Himalayan ecosystems and ensure a safe summit

✓

What To Do (Trail Do's)

Essential
Follow your guide’s cadence: maintain a rhythmic, steady breathing pace.
Yield trail right-of-way to ascending hikers and pack mules — stand on the mountain slope, never the valley drop.
Carry a reusable hydration flask and pack out all personal plastic waste (Leave No Trace principle).
Respect local mountain shrines, sacred high-altitude lakes, and village traditions.
Keep your rain poncho, warm fleece jacket, and headlamp readily accessible in your daypack.
✕

What NOT To Do (Trail Don'ts)

Prohibited
Never consume alcohol, smoking products, or sleeping sedatives at altitudes above 9,000 ft.
Never step off designated alpine trails or trample fragile wildflower meadows and moss beds.
Never touch or step over Buddhist prayer flags, sacred stone chortens, or ancient mani walls.
Never hike alone ahead of the lead guide or lag behind the sweeper guide.
Never discard food wrappers, wet wipes, or plastic into pristine glacial streams or lakes.

Capt. Siddharth R.

"The acclimatization schedule on Mulkila was calculated with extreme surgical precision. Our IMF certified lead captain was constantly checking SpO2 levels and snow anchors. Summit day felt safe despite the 55° ice wall. Best expedition outfit in the Himalayas."

Response from cravel.in Captain

Thank you Siddharth! Safety protocols and gradual altitude gain on the Milang Glacier are our absolute top priority.
